Today, children and their companions navigate galleries with direction from the fun-loving mascot Seymour, a friendly monkey based on a pre-Columbian ceramic vessel in the permanent collection. While in the galleries, families enjoy the social experience of exploring uniquely designed activities for art making, games, and puzzles. And beyond the galleries, families visit the Just For Fun Center to explore, build, and imagine, or spend time in the Kids Corner for opportunities to make connections to the visual world of paintings and sculpture that are seemingly endless. Those with toddlers join Create Playdate and Totspot Sunday for programs created for the young, novice museum visitor. Each experience is memorable and leaves family members young and old excited about the possibility of returning to the art museum.

For this institution as for many others, consensus on early learning grew over time through advocacy of individuals within the institution. Today, DAM is recognized as a family-friendly place where one of its most important assets is how it values all members of the community.
